Amoxil (Amoxicillin)

THE USE OF THE MEDICINE

Amoxil is used to treat infections caused by organisms that are susceptible to amoxicillin. Common infections, against which amoxicillin is used, include infection of the middle ear, tonsils, pharynx, larynx (laryngitis), bronchi (bronchitis), lungs (pneumonia), urinary tract and skin. It is also used to treat gonorrhea.

INDICATIONS FOR USE

For most infections in adults for Amoxil dosing regimens are 250 mg every 8 hours, 500 mg every 8 hours, 500 mg every 12 hours or 875 mg every 12 hours, depending on the type and severity of infection.

For the treatment of adults with gonorrhea dosage of 3 g per use.
For most infections, children older than 3 months but less than 40 kg are treated with 25 mg / kg / day in divided doses every 12 hours, 20 mg / kg / day in divided doses every 8 hours, 40 mg / kg / day receiving every 8 hours or 45 mg / kg / day in divided doses every 12 hours depending on the type and severity of infection.

THE MECHANISM OF ACTION

Amoxil is an antibiotic that belongs to a class of antibiotics called penicillins.

These antibiotics have a similar mechanism of action. They do not kill bacteria, but they prevent their proliferation, preventing the emergence of new bacteria, forming the walls that surround them. The walls needed to protect the bacteria from the environment, preserve the contents of the bacterial cell together. Bacteria cannot survive without a cell wall.

Amoxil is effective against different bacteria, including H. influenza, N. gonorrhea, E. coli, pneumococci, streptococci and some strains of staphylococci.

MISSED DOSE

If you miss a dose of Amoxil, take it as soon as possible. If at this point it is time for the next dose, skip the dose of rejection and return to your normal schedule the reception. Do not take the 2 doses at once.

STORAGE

Store Amoxil capsules as well as 125 and 250 mg dry powder at or below 20 degrees Celsius, tablets, chewable tablets, and 200 and 400 mg dry powder at or below 25 degrees Celsius

PRECAUTIONS MEASURES

Before taking Amoxil, tell your doctor if you are allergic to it, to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics, or if you have any other allergies.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially: kidney disease, other infections (e.g., mononucleosis). This medicine may contain aspartame.

If you have phenylketonuria (PKU) or any other state, you should limit your intake of aspartame (or phenylalanine), consult your doctor about the safe use of this medicine.

This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy, discuss the risks and benefits of medication with your doctor. Consult your doctor before breast-feed.

SIDE EFFECTS

Taking Amoxil you can have nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor.
This medicine may cause temporary staining of the teeth. Proper cleaning is usually removes any blemishes and to prevent them from occurring.

Tell your doctor if there is any one of these unusual but serious side effects:

  • dark urine, persistent nausea or vomiting, stomach / abdominal pain, yellowing eyes or skin, easy bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat or fever.

This medicine may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition (pseudomembranous colitis) due to resistant bacteria. This condition may occur weeks after stopping treatment.

Do not use antidiarrhoeal drugs or pain medications if you have the following symptoms because these products may still worsen.

Tell your doctor if you experience: the constant diarrhea, pain / cramping abdominal or stomach, blood / mucus in your stool. Use of this medication for a long period can lead to thrush or a new vaginal infection (oral or vaginal fungal infection).

Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Do not use this medication with others.
Do not use it later for another infection unless you doctor prescribes it.

Another medication may be necessary only in the case.
